Our vision is that everyone with a neurological condition in the Lothians has the support to live their best life.
Trustees
We are looking for two New Trustees: you will have an opportunity to get involved in an engaging, decision-making role in a local independent charity that is at the heart of providing support for people living with neurological conditions.
Volunteers
We also have great volunteering opportunities for all ages and life experiences in a variety of roles.
From supporting the delivery of our oxygen therapy service, to helping with telephone enquiries, to administration support, this is a varied and fulfilling role.
An estimated one million people in Scotland live with a neurological condition that has a significant impact on their lives.
(Neurological Alliance, Scotland)
The numbers are increasing with public services struggling to support growing needs.
We are based in Edinburgh and support our local Lothian community. Our community includes those we help as well as volunteers, partners, and local businesses – we are all part of supporting the wellbeing of our community.
Our Therapy Support Fund
We try to support anyone who needs our help and we created our Therapy Support Fund (TSF) in recognition of the restrictions long-term health conditions can put on a person’s ability to access vital support services.
All fundraising and donations help us maintain our TSF and of course our services. The TSF helps us maintain a subsidy on the actual costs of delivering services and therapies, reducing costs for people living with long-term health conditions.
This allows us to offer a minimum contribution system (charges) for those who can contribute towards the cost of their therapies and/or treatments. The Fund also allows us to address health inequalities by removing the financial barriers, and our minimum contribution, for those who cannot: clients living with neurological conditions in receipt of means-tested benefits.
Whilst we do all we can to provide free access to services and therapies, these are nevertheless limited, as our Therapy Support Fund is highly dependent upon adequate levels of community fundraising, donations, and grant awards.
Only 12% of our income is derived from local authority grants. So, community fundraising and donations are vital in helping us provide these vital and beneficial services and therapies.
