Our Board Members

Charlotte Encombe - Chair
Having moved to Edinburgh 20 years ago, my family and I have made Leith our home. Having had a chequered career working in - among others -the film industry and becoming a landscape architect, I spend time campaigning on behalf of my local community.
Having started Greener Leith, a charity focused on sustainable development and better green spaces, I am currently Chair of Leith Central Community Council. I’m also a carer’s representative on an NHS sub-committee that aims to promote patients’ wellbeing at the Astley Ainslie hospital.
Oxygen Therapy was hugely beneficial to my son, who was recuperating from a serious accident. With the Centre on our doorstep, I had no hesitation in becoming a volunteer. I spent a year learning how to operate the chamber and getting to know the amazing group of people at the Centre. I was very pleased to have been appointed as a Trustee and then elected Chair.
Carole Macartney - Secretary
I am currently the Secretary of the Board and have been a trustee off and on since 2009. Having been diagnosed with MS in 1993, I started attending for oxygen around 2004 and pre-pandemic was usually at the centre at least twice a week. It is a real lifeline for me, as it is for so many people.
My husband Robert also gets involved from time to time and both my adult children (Craig & Laura) have been volunteers too. My mum Mary Gray, was also a long-standing oxygen volunteer for many years. So the centre has played a big role in the lives of many of my family too.
Prior to taking medical retirement in 2012, I worked as an HR manager in the NHS for many years and this experience has proved very useful in my trustee role. In my spare time, I enjoy playing bridge and also being creative with different types of crafts such as candle-making, knitting and embroidery.

Daniel Baigrie - Vice Chair
My background is in Community Education and I have worked and volunteered across the statutory and third sector in the areas of youth work, community development and adult learning.
In 2016 I completed my degree at the University of Edinburgh. I am currently a Senior Communities and Lifelong Learning Worker in Midlothian working with adult learners and community groups. I have been on the board since 2019 and currently serve as Vice Chair.

Miguel Hernandez – Treasurer
I joined MTSC Lothian in July 2020 as a member of the board and currently perform the role of Treasurer for the organisation. I am originally from Spain and moved to Scotland in April 2017.
